start of synopsis >
Quran verses 56:71-74 say that only Allah can make a tree. Harun Yahya claims this explains why man is today unable to make the chemical lignocellulose, which is contained in wood.

Nuri & Hoque (1964) in their footnote to Quran verse 36:80 claimed that “fire from the green tree” is a revelation about photosynthesis.

Quran verse 13:3 in its original Arabic says Allah created fruit hiding a pair.
Nearly all Quran translators interpret it as pistils and stamens.

THINGS THAT FLY IN THE QURAN

start of synopsis >

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM OF THE FLY?
Quran verse 22:73 says that the pagan gods are so weak that all of them combined do not have the power to rescue something snatched away by a fly. The similarity between the word secret and the word secrete led to a mistranslation that was further botched when a Muslim website misinterpreted secretion as feces.

Thus the Muslim website concluded that Quran verse 22:73 reveals the scientific fact that a fly has a digestive system that converts food into feces.

HOW BIRDS FLY
The Quran does not reveal scientific facts about how birds fly. The Quran merely says that Allah holds up the birds that spread and close their wings. Harun Yahya borrows from the Aisha Bewley translation the phrase “suspended in mid-air”, which is not present in the original Arabic words.

CICADAS AND LOCUSTS LAY EGGS UNDER THE GROUND
Quran verse 54.7 says that on Judgement Day huge numbers of people will come out of their graves at the same time, like cicadas coming out of their graves.

AL-BURAQ
Many Sunnis believe in a hadith that the prophet Mohammed flew on a donkey or horse named al-Buraq from Mecca to Jerusalem. The related hadith about the prophet Mohammed visiting the 7 heavens does not mention al-Buraq. A king of India (the Mughal empire) attempted to merge al-Buraq with the Hindu goddess Kamadhenu.

EVOLUTION IN THE QURAN

start of synopsis >
6 DAYS OF CREATION
Quran verses are not clear about the details of the 6 days of creation, so Muslims rely on the ahadith to explain that trees were created before the sun [false], and that trees were created before there were any animals [also false]
NUH (NOAH) AND THE FLOOD
The flood story in the Quran is similar to the BIble explanation, except the Quran does not say whether the flood was global or local. and does not say whether the flood was thousands of years ago or billions of years ago. The hadiths do not prohibit a belief in Allah directing evolution for billions of years.
ECOLOGICAL BALANCE
Quran verse 15:19 says Allah caused things on Earth to grow well balanced. This verse merely means there was food for a varied diet. It is not about competition between animals
EARLIEST FORMS OF LIFE
Edip Yüksel misinterpreted Allah creating man from mud as revealing that the earliest microscopic lifeforms lived in mud.
ALL THINGS CREATED IN PAIRS
Quran verse 36:36 has been interpreted as meaning that all living things were created as pairs. Actually, the first living things were the archaea, from which scientists say the plants and animals later evolved. Archaea have no sexes or sexual organs.
Edip Yüksel mistranslated Quran verse 35:11 as revealing that the blueprints for life are encoded in genes. Actually, the beginning of Quran verse 35:11 merely says that Allah created man from dust. The end of the verse fatalistically says that how long each man will live was predetermined by Allah and cannot be changed; it is written in the “kitābin”, which means “decree of Allah”.
Edip Yüksel’s footnote to Quran verse 16:49 misinterpreted “all living things prostrating to Allah” as all living things obeying the laws of chemistry. He falsely claimed the verse is a revelation of scientific facts about the nucleic acids in dna.

THINGS THAT TALK IN HADITH AND QURAN

start of synopsis >
MOHAMMED’S TALKING DONKEY IN HADITH
A hadith believed mostly by many Shias says the prophet Mohammed had a conversation with a donkey. The donkey said his ancestors had been ridden by prophets.
REPEATING PRAISE OF ALLAH
Quran verse 34:10 says the birds and mountains were commanded to repeat praise of Allah. This means that echos and bird songs are praise of Allah.

TALKING HEAVENLY BODIES
In http://www.islamawakened.com/Quran/41/11/default.htm Allah is having a conversation with heaven while it was smoke, and with the Earth.

BEES IN THE QURAN

start of synopsis >
Edip Yüksel incorrectly claimed a Quran verse reveals that all worker honey bees are female The Arabic word buṭūnihā is used, and a Quran Arabic dictionary explains that in that sentence syntax it is masculine plural. Edip Yüksel mistranslated it as feminine singular, which would only be true in a different sentence syntax.
BEES EAT ALL FRUIT?
Rashad Khalifa hid a science error in the Quran by translating verse 16:69 as saying honey bees “eat from all fruit” rather than “eat of all fruit”, hinting that bees eat something that grew on fruit plants (blossom nectar) rather than eating the fruit.
Actually, “eat all fruit” is not true in any meaning of the phrase. Bees eat the nectar of flowers (mostly from plants such as clover, that do not produce fruit). Many tropical plants have night-opening flowers that are visited by small bats instead of by bees. Nuri & Hoque went further to hide the Quran science error, changing the word “fruit” to “nectar of the flowers”.
ARCHITECTURE OF BEES?
Some Muslims falsely claim that Quran verse 16:68 reveals facts of civil engineering. Actually, the verse does not describe the nests of the bees or the hexagonal cells in the nests. It merely hints that beekeepers built small structures to attract the bees.

ANT AND BIRD FABLES IN THE QURAN

start of synopsis >

TALKING ANT

In Quran verse 27:18 (John Medows Rodwell translation) a talking ant tells the other ants “O ye ants, enter your dwellings, lest Solomon and his army crush you and know it not”.

Nuri & Hoque botched an attempt to claim “Ants” was the name of a tribe of humans.
A Muslim YouTube video claims the Quran verse reveals the recently discovered scientific fact that ants can communicate with each other.
Asad explained in footnote 17 to Quran verses 27:18-19 that the story should not be taken literally but as a legend with a moral lesson about “loving compassion” for all living creatures.

TALKING BIRD
In Quran verses 27:22-24, a talking bird tells King Solomon that the Queen of Sheba and her people worship the sun.
ALLEGORIES
Verse 3:7 [Pickthall translation] explains that some revelations are “allegorical”.
