Modern chess was not invented by Muslims.

Chess was invented by Hindus in India, copied by the Persians, and the modifications to produce the modern game were done by Christians in Europe.

Wikipedia says that the Muslim Persian chatrang was identical to one of the versions of chaturanga of India, the only difference being that the Muslim version swapped the starting position of the black king and black queen. The differences between the chess of India and modern chess were made by Christians in Europe to speed up play of the game.
