<><><> start of synopsis ><><><><><>
In Quran verse 41:11, Allah is having a conversation with heaven while it was smoke, and with the Earth at the same time. Muslims quote the smoke out of context to claim it is the big bang.
Muslim websites claim Quran verse 41:11 revealed the scientific fact that the universe was created, rather than being of infinite age. But many ancient peoples believed that the universe was created and did not always exist.

Quran verse 21:30 states that the heavens and the Earth were originally joined later were parted. This could have been copied from Mesopotamian myths which say the body of the slain creation and ocean goddess Tiamat was divided to form the heavens and the Earth.

Muhammad Asad’s footnote 38 to Quran verse 41:11 claims that this verse means that the universe originated from hydrogen.

TALKING TO SMOKE
In http://www.islamawakened.com/Quran/41/11/default.htm
Allah is having a conversation with heaven while it was smoke, and with the Earth.
The verse is incorrectly interpreted on some Muslim websites as saying that the Earth was created from hot gas and dust. Actually, the verse is clearly saying that the Earth and the smoke existed at the same time, and hints that the heavens were created from the smoke. If you interpret the verse as describing the first few minutes after the big bang, then the verse would be saying the Earth was created before the big bang.

FINITE AGE
Muslim websites claim Quran verse 41:11 revealed the scientific fact that the universe was created, rather than being of infinite age.
But many ancient peoples believed that the universe was created and did not always exist.

VERSE NOT ABOUT THE BIG BANG
A more plausible explanation of this verse is that it is describing a pre-Islamic geocentric view, with an Earth surrounded by the moon, sun, planets and stars.
This verse could be interpreted to mean that long after the big bang, our solar system and its planets and neighboring stars was like the Lagoon Nebula (a cloud of interstellar gas, dust and stars). Then Allah could be having a conversation with the early Earth and with the nebula our sun was part of.

GODDESS TIAMAT
Quran verse 21:30 states
” … the heavens and the earth were of one piece, then We parted them”.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiamat
Quran verse 21:30  agrees with ancient Mesopotamian myths which say the body of the slain creation and ocean goddess Tiamat was divided to form the heavens and the earth.

CREATED FROM HYDROGEN
Muhammad Asad’s footnote 38 to Quran verse 41:11  claims that this verse means that the universe originated from hydrogen.
